Learning During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 virus has slowed down the entire world, and has stopped daily routines altogether. Unfortunately, one of those routines is education.

With the virus spreading rapidly, school districts have been forced to shut down campuses for the remainder of the school year. The challenges that come with that are difficult, but our students have done their best to adapt to the situation. We’re happy to say that every high school student involved with the i.am Angel Foundation’s programs received a laptop, along with a hotspot router for WiFi if they were needed. This helped to ensure that students could still access online schoolwork from their teachers while learning from home. Teachers have also offered virtual office hours, giving students the tutoring help and resources needed to continue learning.

However, learning from home has not been an easy task. Many students are now responsible for taking care of younger siblings during the day. They are also worried about their parents’ safety during this pandemic, many of whom are considered essential workers. In this video, we hear from Boyle Heights STEM Academy student Xochlit Ruacho on how COVID-19 has impacted her life.
