In support of the National Day of Civic Hacking, will.i.am challenges Americans to hack for civic good and make apps for their cities and communities!

In his call to action video, he challenges not just coders but also athletes, artists and musicians to participate in making apps for social good, and to find solutions to civic problems through technology. He encourages his peers Kanye West, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre and Britney Spears to get hackathons going in Chicago, Brooklyn, Compton and Louisiana!

The National Day of Civic Hacking is a White House-backed initiative, taking place June 1-2, 2013 in cities across America. The event will bring together citizens, software developers, and entrepreneurs to collaboratively create, build, and invent new solutions using publicly-released data, code and technology to solve challenges relevant to our neighborhoods, our cities, our states and our country. This day will provide citizens an opportunity to do what is most quintessentially American: roll up our sleeves, get involved and work together to improve our society.

The i.am Angel Foundation is a proud sponsor and organizer of the official event for the city of Los Angeles, held in Boyle Heights! We’re also sponsoring the biggest prize of $5,000, which will be rewarded to the best app serving Boyle Heights, to encourage citizens to bring technological solutions to underserved communities.

We look forward to welcoming the city’s best coders, techies, artists, designers, students and all civic-minded Angelenos to come make apps for L.A. and Boyle Heights. Let’s Hack for LA together! For more info, visit:www.hackforchange.org/hack-la
