The i.am/Angel Foundation has continued its mission to advance students in STEM in Boyle Heights and communities like it.

In partnership with ESRI, ArcGIS mapping software was donated to the Magnet, Science, and Technology Magnet Academy at Roosevelt High School in 2013. This gave students from the Boyle Heights community a chance to learn and create interactive story maps using information from their own neighborhood.

From this partnership, the i.am/Angel Foundation and ESRI decided to collaborate on a scholarship program. Established in 2015, the i.am/ESRI Scholarship was created to assist students from Roosevelt High School who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

This year we would like to congratulate the four i.am ESRI Scholarship recipients: Briana Duarte, Renee-Alexis Penunuri, Miguel Rodriguez, and Melissa Ruiz. Each of these students were awarded a $4,000 college scholarship. The i.am/Angel Foundation has now awarded over $200,000 in scholarships to over 50 i.am ESRI scholars. This year’s scholarships will supplement our student’s journeys to higher education at various colleges including UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, University of Southern California and Wesleyan University. Our students continue to inspire us and demonstrate leadership in significant ways.

We cannot wait to see what their future holds and the contributions they will make to society.
